Month by month
January and February
January is the coldest month, with highs around 10°C and lows near freezing. It’s also the first of the big shrine weeks. Toka Ebisu at Imamiya Ebisu Shrine runs from 9 to 11 January, and Osaka Tenmangu holds its Hatsu-Tenjin on 24 and 25 January. The Osaka Marathon’s 2027 edition is on 28 February.
March and April
March warms up fast, from a 14.2°C average high to 19.9°C in April, and both months have about nine days of rain. Osaka Castle Park has about 3,000 cherry trees, mostly Someiyoshino, and held a spring festival from 10 March to 24 May in 2026. The Grand Sumo spring tournament is at EDION Arena Osaka from 14 to 28 March 2027. For blossom spots, see the Osaka cherry blossom map.
May and June
May is mild, with a 24.9°C average high and 9.5 rain days. June is the wettest month on the table. Covered arcades such as Shinsaibashi-suji and Tenjinbashisuji keep the day workable, and the rainy day list has more.

July and August
These are the hottest months, with highs of 31.8°C and 33.7°C and lows that don’t drop below 24.6°C. Osaka Tenmangu’s Tenjin Matsuri is on 24 and 25 July. Plan outdoor sights for the morning, and use the museums, the aquarium and the Spa World baths in the afternoon.
September and October
September is still hot, with a 29.5°C average high and 152.8 mm of rain. October drops to a 23.7°C average high with 8.3 rain days and 136.0 mm. The lower temperatures make long walks, such as the castle park or the Tonbori Riverwalk, easier to enjoy.

November and December
November is cooler and drier, with a 17.8°C average high and 72.5 mm of rain. It’s the month for autumn colour, and the Osaka autumn leaves map shows where. December has a 12.3°C average high and 55.5 mm of rain. The year-end and New Year shrine and temple events are listed on the events page.
