Shinsaibashi

A 600 m arcade, department stores and basement food streets

Shinsaibashi is Osaka's main shopping area, built around a roofed arcade about 600 m long. The arcade runs from just south of Nagahori-dori to Soemoncho-dori and is one minute from Shinsaibashi Station. Go on a weekday morning if you want room to walk.

The Osaka tourism bureau counts Shinsaibashi-suji as about 380 years old. Weekends bring about 120,000 people against about 60,000 on a weekday. Stores keep their own hours, so evenings are patchy.

Daimaru and Shinsaibashi PARCO sit at the Midosuji end, and both stay open late for food. Daimaru's restaurant floor and B2 food hall run until 22:00. PARCO's B2 food street runs to 23:00. The area sits on the Midosuji line, so Namba is close.

Getting there

Shinsaibashi Station is on the Midosuji and Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi lines. Namba is nearby on the Midosuji line, and

What to see

Suomachi Street, called Europe Street, is about 500 m long and runs east from Midosuji with brick buildings, streetlamps and stone paving. It's lined with boutiques, and Nagasakido sits on it. Mitsutera is a Shingon temple in the district with 12 wooden statues that Osaka City designated a cultural property in 2015. No official hours were confirmed, so check the gate on the day.

Where to eat and drink

The best food is in the department stores. Daimaru has a restaurant floor on 10F and a food hall on B2. TANK Sakaba/Kissa is a bar in the PARCO basement with DJ nights. OSAKA MUSE is a live house in the Muse 389 building. Shows are ticketed, and the drink charge at the door is 600 yen on the October 2026 schedule.
